Material Description – LDPE Properties

• Thermoplastic made from ethylene, first produced in 1933

• Density: 917–930 kg/m³, naturally flexible and tough, but lower stiffness than HDPE—suitable for irrigation

• Recommended for: Low-pressure irrigation; Class 6 indicates ~600 kPa rating under standard conditions.

• Resistance profile:

  • Excellent: acids, bases, alcohols, esters

  • Good: aldehydes, ketones, oils

  • Limited: hydrocarbons, mineral oils

  • Poor: halogenated hydrocarbons

🛠 Class 6: Intended Usage & Fitment

• Irrigation use only: Not for potable water or exposed potable installations; use LDPE Class 6 in subsurface or garden systems only .

• Fitting type: Designed for swaged insert fittings (compressed into ID), secured with hose clamps. Swaging reduces ID, so usually upsizing fittings is needed—or use “full-flow” style

• Fitting compatibility: Works with standard LDPE push-fit or insert fittings (not compression-style like HDPE)
