Versions / Sizes & Spec Comparison

Model Gun / Torch Compatibility Thread Connections Amperage / Duty‑Use Rating Physical Dimensions & Other Details
54A (Tweco #4 / 14‑series style) Tweco No. 3 / No. 4 MIG guns; also with Weldskill, WS54A, and other “14‑series” style diffusers. Base thread: 3/8‑24 UNF; Tip thread (where applicable): 1/4‑28 UNF. Rated for light to medium duty up to about 400‑450 A depending on wire size and cooling. Example dims: length ~32 mm; external width ~11 mm.
55 / 55SW (Tweco #5 / 15‑series) Tweco No. 5 MIG guns; also “standard duty” or “medium‑to‑heavy duty” front ends, plus models labelled 55, 55SW, etc. Base thread: 7/16‑20 UNF; Tip thread (in many models): 5/16‑UNF (or occasionally other matching tip threads) where nozzle screws over. Designed for medium to heavy duty MIG welding up to ~500 A (depending on wire size, duty cycle, cooling, etc.). Example dims: ~35 mm length; ~13 mm width; with inner diameter sized to suit larger wire feeds (for example for 1.6‑2.0 mm wire).

Compatibility / Usage

  • Ensure the gas diffuser matches the torch series (#4 or #5) — mismatch can cause poor fit, poor gas shielding, overheating, or difficulties with tip/nozzle installation.

  • Must match with contact tips and nozzles of appropriate series (14‑series for #4; 15‑series for #5) to ensure tip thread, nozzle internal bore etc. align properly.

  • Gas flow must be sufficient through both diffuser holes & nozzle; keep diffuser clean (no spatter inside holes) otherwise gas flow and coverage degrade.

  • The base thread (tube side) and tip side threads need to be clean and undamaged so nozzle seals correctly.

Typical Applications

  • General MIG welding light to heavy duty in fabrication, maintenance, industrial workshop settings.

  • Suitable for use with steel, stainless steel, aluminium (with compatible tips / nozzles), depending on wire size.

  • High current or long run welding jobs need proper cooling and periodic maintenance (e.g. removing and cleaning diffusers) to maintain performance.

Part Numbers / Branding Examples

  • 54A (Tweco / Weldmark / MatWeld etc.) – for Tweco #4 / 14‑series.

  • 55, 55SW (or WMK55SW, TWE1550‑1101) – for Tweco #5 / 15‑series.

  • Some also labeled WS55SW (WeldSkill standard duty). Zoro+1

Maintenance & Care Tips

  • Keep gas diffuser holes clear of spatter and obstruction.

  • Inspect threads and sealing surfaces regularly; damaged threads or worn faces can lead to leaks or poor gas flow.

  • Use correct torque when replacing nozzle/diffuser to avoid damaging threads or deforming components.
